"In the past, our main markets in the United States only. But, we saw a pretty good chance to develop a market segment Harley in the middle class. Including making motors specifically for women, but it is not a motor scooter," said President and Chief Operating Officer of Harley Davidson Motor Company, Matt Levatich, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday, December 20, 2011.
According to him, for the early stages, Harley economical version will still be made in the United States. However, it is also possible to open more factories, especially in developing countries.
As is known, Harley Davidson already has an assembly plant outside the U.S., like India and Brazil. "We also have distributors in several developing countries. It is hoped this can build and enhance partnerships Harley sales worldwide," said Matt Levatich.
Harley Davidson motorcycles are still dominating the market in the United States, with approximately 55 percent market share. This figure exceeds the sale of two main Japanese competitors, Honda and Yamaha.
Currently, developing countries have the largest selling motorcycle in the world is Indonesia. Indonesian motorcycle industry currently ranks third highest in the world after China to reach 30 million units and India are close to 10 million units. Meanwhile, the Indonesian motorcycle market is estimated to reach 8 million units.
Although later Harley Davidson cheap version was released in Indonesia, the price seems not too friendly priced. Therefore, this moge price will remain expensive because of high tax rate in Indonesia.
